Epoxy Resin Alcohol Inks

Epoxy Resin Alcohol Inks

Delivery time: 1-3 working days

EPODEX epoxy resins are suitable for all applications. The scope of delivery includes resin (A) and hardener (B) as well as one or more 10g vials of Alcohol Inks, depending on the selection. Choose between our two-epoxy resin systems ECO and PRO. Then determine the desired amount of epoxy resin and alcohol ink. For the typical Alcohol Ink effect, you can optionally order white dye. The more white dye used, the stronger the effect. You will find application instructions on this product page.

    1. Casting above the maximum pouring height per process is not recommended. The resin may boil as a result of the reaction and yellowing, cracking and deformation can occur. By reducing the temperature (room, substrate, material temperature to e.g. 15 °C and reducing the area to e.g. 10x10cm, casting heights of up to 30cm can be achieved in one casting process.
    2. There is no maximum time limit to pour the next layer.
    3. No epoxy resin is completely UV resistant. However, high-quality raw materials and additives such as UV absorbers can increase UV protection. By using a topcoat, you can increase UV resistance even further. Possible topcoats are e.g. transparent polyurethane (PU) resins or lacquers which are painted or sprayed onto the epoxy coating as a finish.
    4. When properly used and completely cured, it is VOC free.
    5. According to formula without free BPA.
    6. Our epoxy resin systems have a high scratch resistance, but are not completely scratch-resistant. Scratch resistance can be increased by using a topcoat. Possible topcoats are e.g. transparent polyurethane (PU) resins or lacquers which are painted or sprayed onto the epoxy coating as a finish.
    7. The heat deflection temperature indicates up to which temperature the cured epoxy resin system remains mechanically stable. At higher temperatures, the cured epoxy can soften. By annealing (curing at higher temperatures >60°C), the heat resistance can be increased.
    8. If the lid of the container is closed directly after opening, the shelf life after opening is at least 6 months.

EPODEX Epoxy Resin Alcohol Inks

EPODEX Alcohol Inks are transparent and fast-drying alcohol-based ink colours specifically designed for fluid painting techniques. Create individual colour gradients, abstract effects, and surprising shapes with EPODEX Alcohol Inks.
The ink can be used on almost all smooth, non-porous materials. Epoxy resins, synthetic papers (e.g. Yupo paper), glass, metal, ceramics, porcelain, stone or modeling clay are best suited. After drying, the acid-free Alcohol Inks are smudge-proof and waterproof.

Application on epoxy resins

  1. Mix epoxy resin and hardener in the specified mixing ratio.
  2. Pour the resin-hardener mixture onto the desired surface or into the desired mould. For the typical Alcohol Ink effect (“Petri-Art effect“) we recommend a maximum pouring height of 1.5cm.
  3. Add the coloured alcohol ink of your choice to the still liquid the resin-hardener mixture and then add the alcohol ink SELENIT WHITE. The inks will react with each other creating a unique pattern. The more white ink drops you add to the coloured ink drop, the more pronounced and deeper the effect will be.
  4. To achieve a full-surface result, you can, for example, place several coloured drops next to each other and alternate them with white drops to create a pattern. The more white drops you put on the coloured drop, the deeper the colours sink into the resin and the stronger the Alcohol Ink effect is.
  5. Work with different coloured paints for a multicoloured result.

Info: Epoxy resin is sensitive to any kind of moisture during curing (risk of carbamate formation, i.e. white patches in the top layer). For this reason, we recommend that you avoid any contact between water and the epoxy until it has cured completely (at least 7 days). For thin layers, cold temperatures (ambient, substrate, and resin temperatures below 20°C) and increased humidity, the time until the epoxy resin is fully cured may be extended.

Recommended thicknesses when coating floors and other surfaces

  • Overall coating (primer + main coating): approx. 1,65-2,20kg/sqm for layer thicknesses of 1,5-2mm
  • Primer: approx. 0,22-0,55kg/sqm for layer thickness of 0,2-0,5mm
  • Main layer: approx. 1,10-1,65kg/sqm for layer thicknesses of 1-1,5mm
