The current living trend Industrial Design is based on the interiors of factories, warehouses, and industrial buildings. It can be combined well with other living styles and thus creates an individual and unique ambience.

The Industrial Design is best suited to flats with high ceilings, open construction, and lofts. You don’t have to alter much here to achieve the loft style look in the most effective fashion. Typical features of this style are visible pipes and concrete surfaces as well as unrendered bricks. In terms of colour, shades such as grey, black, and rusty brown suit the Industrial Design.

Industrial furniture

You can also choose natural materials such as leather, wood, and metal for your furniture. If you want to paint existing furniture to match your new loft style living, use metal lacquer or wood paint to match the look. Furniture that combines different materials and colours is particularly popular in industrial style interiors, such as a shelf made of black metal, with shelves made of natural wood. Cracks in the wood and rough surfaces also emphasise the industrial look. You can paint wooden furniture with chalk paint from EPODEX and then sand it a little to create a trendy used look.

In addition to the classic materials and colours, it also suits the industrial design look to add statement pieces in eye-catching colours to the furnishings. Industrial Design Décor

Make your own mobile – this is how it works:

Preparation:

Have all the materials ready. Note that you should work at room temperature and that the humidity must not exceed 70%. All materials and tools should also be at room temperature.

Step 1: Put on the disposable gloves and mix our EPODEX ECO system according to the instructions in a ratio of 2:1. Stir well until no more streaks are visible.

Step 2: Pour the finished resin into e.g. 5 mixing cups.

Stir the resin thoroughly again after repotting. In our example we used 5 cups and the metallic pigments Shimmer Gold, Havana Bronze, Intense Anthracite, Terra Orange and Flame Copper. You then mix these pigments into the finished resin until it is evenly distributed.

Step 3: Now pour the resin into the silicone moulds. If you want to embed objects, use clear resin.

Step 4: Now you can place the glitter particles, flowers or pigments in the resin according to your taste.

Step 5: After 24 hours the resin has cured and you can remove the pendant from the mould.

Step 6:  Next you need to drill a small hole with the Dremel on the top and bottom of each pendant.

Step 7: Then you have to thread the nylon thread into a needle and connect beads alternately with the circles as you like until you have a chain out of different elements. This chain is sewn/tied to the wooden wreath. Proceed in the same way with the 2 other chains.

Step 8: Next, create a string of beads and sew this to the top of the wooden wreath, so keep threading through the ‘little branches’.

Step 9: Finally, you need to attach a piece of sisal ribbon to the top of the wreath, so that you get a suspension. Ready!

How-To Guide

Preparation

Have all materials ready. Note that you should work at room temperature and the humidity should not exceed 70%. All materials and tools should also be at room temperature.

1. Mix our EPODEX PRO system according to the instructions in a ratio of 2:1. Stir well until no streaks are visible.
2. Pour the finished resin into a separate container. Stir the resin thoroughly again after repotting. Allow the epoxy resin to set until the consistency resembles liquid honey.
3. In the waiting time you can mix a small amount of PRO and add 1% RAL9003.
4. Now use a silicone coaster mould suitable for resin. Alternatively, you can “draw” a free form of sanitary silicone on a glass base. Make sure that the pouring height is appropriate.
5. When the PRO has started to gel, pour it into the silicone mould.
6. Drop the alcohol inks (three drops per colour) in a flower shape or similar in different colours into the resin (work quickly here so that the drops do not expand too much).
7. Then spiral a thin trickle of PRO in RAL9003 into the resin over the alcohol inks. Make sure that you create fine lines.
8. Then you must let the spiral sink and draw a new spiral again and let it sink. For a deep effect, make three spirals in the mould.
9. Let the last spiral sink and draw a flower pattern with a toothpick from the centre outwards or starting from the inside and working outwards.
10. Allow the result to harden in the mould.

Painting the wall: Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Masking and masking off

Before you start painting, we recommend masking all surfaces which aren’t to be painted. For furniture, that will remain in the room, you can use masking film and place it in the center of the room. The floor area directly next to the wall can be covered with painter’s fleece. If the ceiling is also being painted, it may make sense to cover the entire floor. Remove socket and switch covers. You can then protect them from the paint with masking tape. Also, use masking tape for door and window frames and baseboards.

Step 2: Repairing damaged areas

Before painting, the surface should be even and clean. If there are holes in the wall, you should fill them first and let the filler dry. If the wall to be painted is made of an absorbent material such as lime plaster, a deep primer should be applied first. If the wall was previously painted with glue or latex paint, it must be roughened before painting so that the new layer of paint adheres. You can use a sander for this purpose. On wallpaper or a layer of emulsion paint, this step is not necessary.

Step 3: Painting

When the environment and the surface are ready, you can start painting. First, use a brush to paint the areas that are difficult to reach with a large paint roller. These include corners, the area around taped-off switch covers, and the close quarters of doors and windows. Then choose the right paint roller for your wall. For a very smooth wall, a foam roller is best; for a textured wall, you’re better off using a long-pile paint roller. Start by painting the ceiling. Use the telescopic extension for this. Dip the paint roller into the bucket and then run it over the scraper grid to get an even distribution of paint on the roller. Paint all walls evenly. When using our EPODEX wall paint, you will usually only need one coat to achieve an opaque result.

Step 4: Clean and tidy up

You should remove the tape as soon as you are done painting, but the paint on the wall is still wet. If the emulsion paint has gotten into places where it shouldn’t or stained clothing, you can soak and remove it immediately. In general, the paint can be easily removed with water and a cleaning agent. Immediately after use, clean the utensils such as the stirring rod, paint rollers, brushes, paint tray, and scraper grid. This way you can use the tools more often if you take good care of them. Let the paint dry on the wall before putting your furniture back and keep the area clean during that time (i.e., no dusty jobs, such as sanding).

Restoring furniture: Step-by-step guide

Step 1: Establish stability

The stability of a piece of furniture should be restored first. As soon as the statics are no longer correct and parts are in danger of breaking off, all damaged areas must be removed. This is done by re-gluing and fixing the damaged areas. The old glue should be loosened and removed as much as possible. Then re-glue the areas with wood glue and let it dry under tension. For very heavy pieces of furniture it may also make sense to use screws.

Step 2: Repairing holes and cracks

The next step is to repair holes and cracks, especially those that extend into deeper layers. If only the veneer is damaged, this step can be skipped. Holes and cracks in the support wood must be filled with wood filler. Once the measures have dried, the filled areas must be sanded smooth with sandpaper so that they are no longer noticeable.

Step 3: Remove veneer or old layers of varnish

The next step is to restore an even surface. If the piece of furniture has a damaged varnish, this must be removed by sanding. Veneer can be repaired or removed depending on its condition. Bubbles or waves in the veneer can be filled with glue applied using a disposable syringe. Missing veneer can be replaced with a piece of veneer that looks as similar as possible.

Step 4: Refreshing the colour

Once the surface of the piece of furniture is even, roughened and clean, it can be painted. If the original look is to be retained and the surface is made of wood, only a stain can be applied.
